What I Beheld

Today I saw and beheld
A dazzling throne, a beautiful love
A man so divine, so perfect, so true
A lamb on a throne, ruling above

They were there with angels about
They were there in Unity
Seraphim and Cherubim sang out
The perfect three, Trinity

Today I saw and beheld
A wretch, his soul he did sell
A man made by God, sinner
Deserving of death, of Hell

He was sprawled on the floor
His sins on display before all
A man so lowly and destitute
A man who once stood tall

Today I saw and beheld
The lamb, Christ, came down
He lifted the man from the floor
He laid on his head a Crown

Christ turned to the throne
And said "This one is mine.
I died for your sins.
Righteousness is thine"

His robes for mine: O wonderful exchange!
Clothed in my sin, Christ suffered ‘neath God’s rage.
Draped in His righteousness, I’m justified.
In Christ I live, for in my place He died.

(Last stanza taken from the hymn "His Robes for Mine" by Chris Anderson)
